Goose
St. lawerence county holds a large population of resident canadian geese. Resident geese are birds that are not true migratory geese, they live from spring right through until winter drives them south in the st lawerence valley, often feeding in parks, golf cources and in local farmers hay fields. Generally from september 1st though september 25th there is a resident hunting season on them. most hunting is done on local farmers fields and can also be done on the st. lawrence seaway. There is a generous daily bag limit on them in this september hunt of 8 birds per day, per hunter.
In octorber the regular or migratory goose season starts.(dates & bag limits are set annually.) Migratory geese fill the st. lawrence county on their fall migrate south. Usually holding holding in the area for long periods of time. Farmers have harvested their crop fields of corn & soy beans by then, leaving plenty of feed in the fields for geese to eat.
Hunts for geese start before sunrise. setting up decoys spreads of 120 to 150 full body decoys in fields that geese where scouted in the day before. Hunter concealment is done in final approach layout blinds, calling geese with short reed calls to get them in close insures a truley quality hunt.
