Winters in the North Country are extremely cold, with minus 20 not unusual. However there are plenty of activities available to suit most people and keep them entertained throughout the winter months.

Cross country skiing is very popular, with acres of land around for you to discover the fun and beauty of a North Country winter. For the more adventurous skiers, Titus Mountain is a short drive away, and Lake Placid, home of the winter Olympics, is under 2 hours drive. Take a look around the Olympic village and perhaps have a go on the downhill slopes.

Ice skating ‘alfresco’ or under cover is a very popular pastime. Skate the many bays along the river or if you prefer, the inside arena in Waddington provides the ideal location, plus it also hosts ice hockey matches, entertainment for the whole family.

Bring you snowmobile and cover the trails, within a short drive of the motel, or go for a spin along the straights of the St. Lawrence River (if you like high speeds).

Ice fishing is the extreme branch of angling, with many fishermen pitting their skills against the fish and the elements. Waddington and the surrounding areas hold ice fishing tournaments with cash prizes for the winners - are you brave enough?

Quad biking in the snow is also great fun for all the family, with lots of tracks and runs to explore.

For the not so bold, why not have an evening of leisurely bowling at the local Riverlanes Bowling Alley, followed by a drink and a meal to round it off. A short drive away is a modern cinema where you can take in the latest movies and if you fancy a Chinese meal after, then it’s just next door to the cinema.

So all in all, winter in the North Country can be fun. Why not give it a try and take a well earned break during the winter months.
